What type of batteries are the best to use for a digital camera...the regular ones dont last at all?

every time I use regular batteries they only last one day...do I need to buy special batteries just for a digital camera?

Digital cameras are "high-drain" devices--they draw lots of current at once. Regular alkaline batteries cannot handle this kind of current drain and die quickly.

Your best bet are rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries, especially "pre-charged" NiMH batteries like the Sanyo Eneloop. These batteries are designed to be used in high-drain devices and will give you far longer life. And they can be recharged, making them economical to use. About 4 charges and they will have paid for themselves and their charger. It may cost more initially, but over time, it's much cheaper to use rechargeables.

I agree that that the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries are the best money saver if you take a lot of pictures, especially if you can keep one set charging whille taking pictures with the other.

The next best bet are the NON-rechargable lithium batteries. See the line below, though other manufacturers sell them too. They'll take a lot more pictures on a set of batteries than a rechargeable set of the same size, but cost a lot more - and once they're used up, they're trash while the rechargeable batteries can be used many times. The last time I priced out AA non-rechargeable lithium batteries, they ran about $10 for a four pack.

I use Duracell -- and if I don't use the flash, they last MUCH more than a day in my camera. I have a Fujifilm Finepix S5000.
You can buy rechargeable batteries, but you'll need to get two sets, so you've always got one set charging while the other set's in the camera.
