How many photos can the average digital camera battery take?

it seems like sometimes even when my camera batteries are freshly fully charged, they start to get low after i take only 10 photos. it wasn't always like that as i can recall...any ideas as to why?

you MUST use rechargeable batteries

It really depends on the camera. Some cameras really eat up batteries while others are excellent...like 500 shots for a point and shoot. Using LCD screen will quicken the life of a battery.
I'm assuming you know you need rechargeables if the camera uses AA batteries.

It's time to get new rechargeable batteries. They should be good for up to 300 shots.
