This is actually my mother-in-law's camera and I'm trying to help her out. She has a Radio Shack USB-Serial Driver disc, which I've installed. When I go into Windows Movie Maker it doesn't recognize the video when I try to import it. The camera isn't showing up as a separate peripheral device in "My Computer" either. I'm running on Windows XP. I'd like to add that the cable that came with the camera ends in a 9-Pin SCSI-style. The "male" end that goes into the camera is a straight headphone-style connector. The best way to transfer video from a digital camcorder is via a Firewire connection. If you have a recent PC, it should have Firewire ports, also called IEEE 1394. If not sure, right-click on 'My Computer' and choose 'Properties'. Then under 'Device Manager' look for IEEE 1394.
Assuming you have the ports, you then need to buy a Firewire cable. They either come in 4-pin to 4-pin, or 4-pin to 6-pin. Most camcorders have the smaller 4-pin Firewire (DV-Out) connector. Most desktops have the larger 6-pin Firewire connector. So most likely you'll want the 4-pin to 6-pin cable. If it is a laptop, it might be the smaller one, then you'd want the 4-4 cable.
Anyway, once you connect the camcorder using Firewire to the PC, Windows Movie Maker should recognize it without problem. |
