What are the laws behind speed cameras as speeding?

Well, not exactley what i can and cannot do, but mostly where the speed cameras are placed and the loopholes preventing speeders from being prosecuted. I've read that speed cameras must be placed of a strip of road that is 400 metres straight and cannot be placed at a turn/bend in the road. The cameras must be visibly marked and signs awaring drivers of them. They cannot be placed behind trees or hidden. I also read that police cannot also be hidden behind trees/bushes/something else.

Then there was a story which involved men speeding but using some European human rights to say that they do not have to say anything because it was infringing the right they have.

Is there any truth in this and are the laws still the same today?

Cheers,

If your area is using speed cameras, the laws regarding them can be found at your local dmv, assuming you are in the US.

As far as not say anything because you dont want to incriminate yourself, thats the 5th amendment, and also the Miranda laws. 'You have the right to remain SILENT. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law...........'

In my area, we had red light cameras, but no speeding cams. But the city had contracted a third party to process the video and distribute tickets. The tickets were sent to the registered owner of the car. My aunt fought one and won. Her sister had the car and was the one that ran the red light. She simply called and threw a fit and threatened civil suit if she had to pay the ticket. They let it go.

After many cases like that, they just quit using the cams for tickets. The cams are still there and work, and we have several traffic cams all over the place, but none of them are used to issue tickets
