I made a recording with a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD610 and I can't get the video on my computer! Please help!!

I made the video with my friend's camera (he's out of town). I plugged it into my computer (HP Pavilion) and nothing happened. I went to Sony's website to get the drivers I needed but they said they weren't available. After a bit of searching I discovered a how-to on saving the movie onto my comp. straight from the mini-dvd itself, so I finalized the DVD (although it is RW) and tried to save it. What I ended up with was three files: VR_manger.bup, VR_manager.ifo, and VR_movie (VRO file). I can't play any of these, and I really need to edit them (with window's media player) which won't import them. I have tried changing the file names to .mpg, but only get fragmented pieces of the video, and it still won't import into WMM. I really need to figure this out very soon, please help in any way you can!

The problem with using software like the one suggested below is that the mini-DVD that it burned on didn't create an actual video files that the programs can read, it's like a data disk. Whenever I try and open it in cladDVD it says that no DVD was found, just like it has said in other similar programs.

Download and use the free cladDVD to rip the VRO files from the DVD to your computer as one movie file. Use the PGC mode to get one full file of the video instead of the fragmented pieces. Change the extension of the ripped file from VRO to MPG. See if WMM likes that.

Here is where you get cladDVD. It is free and can also be used to rip regular movies from DVDs for making bakups. It is a good freeware program. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/clad...

If WMM doesn't like the VRO file, try converting it with a freeware file converter like SUPER, available at http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Additional Info:

The file types you refer to and their purposes are:

VR_manager.ifo is the information file that tells a DVD player where the VRO file is and how to read it.

VR_manager.bup is a backup of the .ifo file.

VR_movie.vro is the actual movie file that is a type of mpeg file with audio and video. All of these files should be in a VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD. cladDVD cannot work with files on the PC, it must read a DVD from a DVD drive. If the DVD did not get burned correctly or wasn't finalized properly, then cladDVD won't be able to find it.

Try copying the .ifo, .bup and vro files from your miniDVD disk to your hard drive as data files. Then make two folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS on your hard drive and put the .ifo, .bup and vro files in the VIDEO_TS folder. Next, burn these two folders to a DVD. I know the AUDIO_TS folder will be empty, but that is okay. See if cladDVD will then find the DVD you just made in your drive. If not, try making another DVD in the same manner, but changing the extension of the .vro file to .vob and see if cladDVD will recognize that DVD. It may not, since the .ifo file will probably still have the .vro extension in its instructions.

If none of this works, you will have to try converting the .vro file to a mpeg file using SUPER or another converter. If that works, use the resultant mpeg file in WMM. If that doesn't work, you may have to try the $40 cdroller program at http://www.cdroller.com/index.html I haven't used cdroller, so I don't know how good it is.

look for video codifiers and then use them to convert the videos to mpeg or wmv. The codifiers are going to cost u money so try to use torrents to download the codifiers.

easier way: find the driver and maybe the program that came with the camera:S but i dont think you can do it right now so try the first option:S)
