What to do when running red lights when the driver is a tourist?

My cousin is visiting from abroad and is driving for the first time in the States. He couldnt stop in time for a red light a couple of days ago and got photographed by those auto cameras. He just wants to know what he should do as he was driving a rented car and he is actually leaving the country in the next two days.

no, it was the down hill in san francisco. There were three intersections in a row without the light and all of the sudden there was on so he couldn't brake in time

What, he comes from a country that doesn't have traffic lights? The ticket will be sent to the rental agency, they will bill it to his credit card and send him a letter.
3 intersections in a row with no red light, then a surprise one so he couldn't stop? He was speeding, obviously! And I might add he is lucky he didn't have a serious accident.

He won't get the ticket ( initially ), the rental car company will. The rental place will then track down who had the car at that time and charge your cousin's credit card with the fine ( assuming he is the one who rented the car ). He probably won't receive any demerit points ( if applicable ) since he doesn't live in the States but he will still be responsible for the fine since the vehicle was in his name at that time.

Why not try asking the law enforcement in that jurisdiction. They may just say he'll get a warning seeing as he isn't a citizen and is leaving in two days. I'd say don't sweat it.
