Why doesn't my computer recognize my camera anymore?

I have downloaded pictures from my camera many times, but this last time part way through downloading the computer all of a sudden decided it didn't recognize the camera anymore. It says that it doesn't recognize the USB device, and that the device needs to be replaced. Is there something wrong with my camera, or my computer? I tried reinstalling the driver for the camera, but the computer says I don't need a driver for the camera. I have also tried using a different USB cord, and a different port. I have also tried restarting the computer. It still doesn't recognize the camera anymore. What happened? The camera seems to be working fine otherwise. Please no guesses; real answers only!

I have tried all suggestions so far but nothing works. When I try to install the camera the wizard provides a Xerox Scanner, but no camera, for my installation options. A pop-up says that the USB device attached to my computer has malfunctioned and my computer does not recognize it. Help!

Well you can't give you reall solutions as we far from the problem, and we don't know the operating system.

I had similar problems with USB devices.
All of a sudden my PC stop recognised my ALL-IN ONE HP printer.( I have WidowsXP pro)

I solved the problem, with the use of a power USB HUB that I bought.

Try to use the camera onto a different PC, see if it works there.

Sometimes USB ports can't get enough POWER from power supply to operate devices connected on them.

If you can use your camera in another PC, then onto your PC go to START /RUN and when RUN box open tyype in there:

"%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s"

without "" and click OK.
This will open System manager. Click on Device manager on left pane, and on the right pane see if you have any exclamation or any problem with USB PORTS.

If not then all portrs work fine. If yes then what's the problem?

You can right click the USB with the problem or any device with an exclamation in yellow triangle infront, and choose properties.

In new window at bottom you can see a briefly statement about the problem.

Also click on left pane on + infront event view folder to expand it and then click on system folder and on right pane see if you have any RED X mark the last two days.

If you have doubleclick on it to open a window with a brief de3scription of the error.
Also open the aplication folder and look for any error (White X in RED Cycle)

Is any other USB devices attached to the computer? If yes remove them (except the mouse) and try only the camera. See if it works.

If not and camera work in any other computer then you may need to buy a POWER USB HUB. (A USB hub, that it has it's own power supply) connected directly to wall power outlet.

First uninstall your old driver (don't just reinstalling it). Then try installing it again. Read the manual if you still have it, you might miss a step or two.

I would suggest you go tpo the control panel - start-control - then select 'add new hardware', and from there try to install your camera again.
