Do pedestrians get tickets who are jay walking if they are caught by the cameras (red light cameras)?

What if they cross when they aren't suppose to?

If they do not then isn't this profiling against drivers? What about bicycles?

To answer people before they try to attack me, please answer the question. No, I don't have a ticket, but I have questions.

Not currently, but it is in the works. The problem of identification has not been solved yet. The cameras ID through license plates which humans don't carry as of yet.

Biometric face scanning cameras are being set up now and they are all over my town, Austin. The system is not complete yet but they are definitely working on it. The Feds are also micro-chipping passports and soon the national ID. It is a matter of time before one of these technologies produces jaywalk tickets.

Read "1984" and see how George Orwell's prophetic tale is coming true right before your eyes.

Most likely the answer is no. There is no way to immediately identify the person that is jaywalking. And I doubt seriously the police would use valuable time and energy to try and locate them. With the "red light cameras" they can capture the person's license plate number and locate the person to issue the citation.

Yes, if they are seen they will. I got a jaywalking ticket and thought it was so absurd I ignored it and forgot about it until one night I was coming out of a movie theater with a friend very late and we were questioned for curfew violation and the officer saw my ticket for jaywalking and they handcuffed me and took me to jail and I was in there for several hours until my friend came and bailed me out. One of the women was in for murder one, most of the others were prostitutes. When they asked what I was in for and I told them, they laughed.

A car has a license plate to get name and address to sent citation to, how do you suppose the police would get a jay walkers info?
It's okay to ask questions, you just learned something you didn't think about. so now you are a little smarter than you were before you asked. I liked the way you noted you were just asking. Hope there aren't to many nasty attacks
And no I wouldn't call it profiling.

It happened to me once ,25 years ago, when I was walking my daughter to school, and I got a $2 fine. I was wrong because I was setting a bad example for her .In New York it's very unusual to get a ticket for that now. Perhaps in other places it could happen more often

No. They don't have a license plate around their neck with an address attached to that plate number so it's impossible to identify the violator.

No it is NOT profiling.

Personally, I'm all for profiling...
racial, ethnic or otherwise..

It's the only way to protect ourselves
from the evil-doer's of the world.

They would issue the ticket if the could, but pedestrians don't have license plates.

wear a disguise next time~!!

dress up like someone that owes you money and wear a name-tag with their name and address badge on your neck~!!!

No. Car sometimes do because the have identifiable license plate numbers on them.
