Could you see yourself driving past a hit and run victim and going about your buisness?

I think the police should look up the license plate for every driver who went by and prosecute them. What does this say about Americans when you hear more and more stories about people who ignore crimes.
"HARTFORD, Conn. - A 78-year-old man is tossed like a rag doll by a hit-and-run driver and lies motionless on a busy city street as car after car goes by.

Pedestrians gawk but appear to do nothing. One driver stops briefly but then pulls back into traffic. A man on a scooter slowly circles the victim before zipping away.

The chilling scene 鈥?captured on video by a streetlight surveillance camera 鈥?has touched off a round of soul-searching in Hartford, with the capital city's biggest newspaper blaring "SO INHUMANE" on the front page and the police chief lamenting: "We no longer have a moral compass."

Matthew 24:12 "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."

It's called the Bystander Effect. The more people around, the less likely anyone is to do anything because they'll all most likely be thinking 'Well, someone else will do it'.

I could ignore a hit-and-run victim, depending on the person.

We need to take the example of the Good Samaritan as our compass. I am 70 years old, and I would definitely stop. If nothing else, I would call 9-1-1 on my cell phone, and block traffic with my vehicle from doing more damage to the person.

I saw that on the news tonight too. It's sick! It's the product of the numbing of the mind by mindless video games, TV and movie watching, etc. You see this stuff so much, that when it happens for real, it doesn't even phase you. Disgusting!

nope. but i am an oddball.
i am one of Jehovah's witnesses; i am a grandpa; i was a cop, so i have basic training, and i like star trek.

all of the above tells us to

STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE!

of your neighbour.

gotcha, huh!

Well to play devil's advocate here, as a law abiding citizen you have the right to not get involved in matters that don't concern you. That is your moral decision to make.

the least that I would do is block the street with my car, call emergency services, and wait until they arrived... the very least!

life is still important to this non-religious agnostic ...

Honey, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

I would have to stop, and not just because I am a retired nurse - I have a conscience as well.....

What kind of sick freaks could just drive by like that?

I would not hesitate to help that person.....I dont care if Im late for work or whatever...

I would stop.

no I couldn't and I agree with you 100 percent!!!

If I was alone then I would probably stop.

If I had my 3 year old in the car I probably would not from a safety perspective.

Where I live, it is VERY dangerous to stop and help with the crazy drivers and many people have been injured in the process. If it was a side or less busy street I would be more likely but not one of our super busy highways. I would most likely stop my car with the flashers to block the man from being hit again and call the police.

Not alot of people realize how dangerous it can be to exit your vehicle on a busy road.

This is something I've studied in my psychology classes. Because there are so many people, everyone feels less responsible for getting help. Imagine that there are 200 people who saw this tragedy. Each would only feel .0001% resonsible for the situation. If there was only one person, he would feel 100% responsible.
But here is the thing:
If something bad happens and someone needs help, everyone, each and every person, should feel 100% compelled to give aid.
That is not the case.
And even though many people will say otherwise "I would help!" Chances are that they would not. They would assume someone is already handling the situation. Only an extremely small percentage are the exception.
I'm proud of my mother because she is one memeber of that small percentage.
In a grocery store where many people were present, a girl dropped her things and fell to her knees clutching her heart. The employees and fellow shoppers did nothing, but my mom basically shouted "What is wrong with you people!" and ran over to help the girl. She made her boyfriend go get help while she comforted the girl until medical personnel arrived.
I am proud to be my mother's daughter. I only hope that should something happen I would be as aware and responsive.
