Why Americans are so inhuman, not empathetic?

"HARTFORD, Conn. - A 78-year-old man is tossed like a rag doll by a hit-and-run driver and lies motionless on a busy city street as car after car goes by. Pedestrians gawk but do nothing. One driver stops briefly but then pulls back into traffic. A man on a scooter slowly circles the victim before zipping away.
The chilling scene 鈥?captured on video by a streetlight surveillance camera 鈥?has touched off a round of soul-searching in Hartford, with the capital city's biggest newspaper blaring "SO INHUMANE" on the front page and the police chief lamenting: "We no longer have a moral compass."

...that should be YOUR relative.

It's global sin and iniquity.p.s. that was Australia,not America founded as a penal colony.Our founders fled religious persecution from England.

First of all America was NOT founded as a penal colony. Austrailia was but not the US. America was founded as a place to go for religious freedom.

Four cell phone calls were placed from the scene by bystanders. I am surprised that no one went to the street to try to aid the poor man or in the least stop traffic, but people are afraid to get involved. Sad! Judging by the film clip the street was filled with mostly minorities - who knows maybe illegals?

Have not seen the video so could not say for sure.

There is the another possibility that people were not aware what was going on. The video camera recorded the accident but the drivers only see an elderly man laying in the street, possible a homeless person drunk, bait for a robbery they do not know. More should have checked it out further. Not sure if it was at night or day this could effect how people reacted too.

Knowing the facts now it is a shame no one helped

Don't judge a society as a whole because of a few people who did nothing. Ask yourself "what would you have done?". Are you CPR/First Aid trained? Are you willing to get your hands dirty to save a life? Go to any other nation on this planet and you will find a situation like this, not just in America.

America was founded as a penal colony. All of those folks who couldn't get along or obey the law of the land in the homelands, got shipped off to here.

your generalization sucks. Im not inhuman. How about this: Why are you so biased? Why are you so antiamerican? so the acts of a few tell about the population as a whole?

Those were NOT Americans. The man was struck in a Puerto Rican area. Americans avoid that area because it's filled with them. Those were Puerto Ricans who just live in Hartford to collect welfare and be lazy bums.

Morals are dissapearing...
