I have followed the directions in the service manual and everything works just fine right up to the point where you are supposed to hit "finalize". "Finalize" is not an option. The only option is "Format" which of course has already been completed in order to record to the disc to begin with. I am plugged into a power source and have followed all the other directions. I can only play back my recorded material by playing it through the camera into the TV. Can't watch them on the computer at all. Help!!!!! What type of disc are you using? Hitachi DVD camcorders can use DVD-RAM and DVD-R. Only DVD-R can be finalized for use in a standard DVD player. You can not finalize DVD-RAM discs. There should be a little circle in the bottom corner with "R", or "RAM", or "F" inside. I also have a Hitachi Camcorder (Model BX35A). To finalize, you have 2 choices.
1. with the side viewer open, look on the inside of the screen
area. At the upper left, you should see a button marked
"Finalize". Press this button and follow instruuctions from
there.
2. Press the button marked "Disc Navigation". After the
thumbnails are shown, press "Menu". Press the down
arrow on the round selector button 3 times, and you should
get a menu that has several choices, including "Finalize
Disc". Using the same round button, press the right arrow
and then the down arrow to hilight the correct choice and
press the button in the middle of the circular button. You
should then get a message that says"Finalize Disc?" with
a yes/no after. Using the circular button again, choose
"yes". Once again, press the button in the center of the
circular button and finalizing should begin.
