I have a powershot A40 digital camera, how do I turn the flash off?

I don't have the instructions manual and I need to turn off flash.

First of all, in the U.S. you can call Canon Tech support at 1-800 OK-Canon. I call them at least once a month for tech support. You can also order a new instruction manual on their website (www.usa.canon.com). Now for the specifics, I don't own that model, but most work the same. There should be a button with a squiggly line with an arrow at the end (looks like a lightening bolt). If you press that multiple times, you will step through the flash functions: Normal, Fill (always on), Red-eye-reduction and finally off which looks like that lightenting bolt again but with a circle around it with a line through it.

just simply click the right arrow button (at the right of 'SET').. hope it helps... :D

Wait for it to go off.

I have A520 and I can turn off the flash by pressing the TOP ARROW button. Should be same with your as well. Just check it out. When you Press the TOP arrow button, it changes its mode from Auto Flash to Flash and then to No flash. You should see the indicator on your LCD screen.
