Have you ever....?

seen a

- a watch that ticks
- a computer punch card
- a real tube radio
- a manual typewriter
- a camera that does not contain any plastic
- a pay toilet
- a sink that has separate hot and cold water faucets
- a K-tel record
- a "Jawbreaker"
- an actual shoe-shine person or stand
- bathroom tissue that did not come in a roll
- a stubby (not long neck) beer bottle
- a push-button AM car radio
- a pair of "X-ray" glasses that you could order from comic-books

Con you think of other relics from the recent or distant past that we no longer can see or access?

at the dinner table the other night we were talking about a typewriter and my 8 year old son said... what's a typewriter?

I have to admit I have never seen toilet paper not on a roll...
I do remember that you could get toilet tissue in a variety of colors...

Some friends of ours (they are young - mid 20's) just had their first baby and did not realize the burp cloth they were using was actually a cloth diaper...

What about dolls that you actually had to use your imagination with....

Even phone booths/pay phones are hard to find...
Rotary phones...

An elderly couple saw me walking with my baby in my arms the other day and stopped me to tell me they never see anyone hold their babies anymore... everyone uses a carrier.

8 track tape

an honest to goodness record player
Sony Walkman (with cassette player)
A computer mouse with a roller ball
Fruit Stripes gum
car phones (the ones that used to permenantly hook into the car)

Man you just made me feel ancient. I remember everyone of them.
How about penny candy
black jack gum
45 rpm singles
78 rpm albums
8 track players

I have seen and still have a watch that ticks.
I have seen but not lately, a computer punch card.
I have seen a tube radio. Eons ago.
I have seen and still have but don't use a manual typewriter.
I have seen a camera that does not contain plastic.
I have seen a pay toilet.
I have seen many sinks with separate hot and cold faucets.
I own several K-Tel records.
I have seen just lately a Jawbreaker.
I have seen a shoe shine person in a hotel in Chicago.
I have seen BR tissue that didn't come on a roll. It came in a
box like Kleenex.
I have seen many, many stubby beer bottles. I worked in a
convenience store for 23 years.
I have seen a push button AM car radio. We had two antique
Fords recently with them.
I have seen the X-ray glasses and they were a HUGE
disappointment!

WOW! Great Survey/Pool/Quiz!!!!!

PS I have a Walkman. I got a record player for Christmas. Meijer still sells Fruit Stripe Gum.

I have an watch that you need to wind.
I remember the punch cards from when I was little.
My grandparents had a real tube radio.
I learned to type on a manual typewriter.
My grandmother's sink had the separate faucets.
I still have a few K-Tel records.
Still love jawbreakers!
Never had the x-ray glasses, but you could order them off of the back of my Archie comic books.

Yes, I've seen quite a few of the things on your list and the ones I haven't seen, I've at least heard of - except for t.p. that is not on a roll. Never even heard of that! Wow.

My list of things that have expired/no longer exist:

pull tab pop/beer cans
Marathon candy bars
candy bars that cost 25 cents
Sonny and Cher
pop in 16 oz. glass bottles
A&W drive ins and drinking your root beer in a glass mug!
cigarette print ads
pay phones - just about gone anyway
any kind of vinyl record
cassettes (are just about gone)
ditto machines (remember smelling your paper?)
ladies hankerkiefs - impossible to find!
black and white TVs
station wagons (the family truckster!)
candy cigarettes - called candy "sticks" now and no red "flame" painted on the end
toys that don't take SOME kind of battery - RARE!!
Big Chief and Son of Big Chief writing tablets

I have seen nearly all of these things. They aren't that rare.

Shoe shines are all over airports and big train stations, you can find a manual typewriter, non-plastic camera or tube radio at yard sales, or in antique or pawn shops across the country. Certain beers are still served in stubby neck bottles, and separate hot and cold water faucets are all over the place. Off the top of my head, they'd be most easily found in old buildings that are either run down, or have had their plumbing maintained instead of replaced - like an old hotel.

The only one of these I haven't seen is a pay toilet (and who wants to?) and a K-Tel record, but that's because I don't look at records.
