How can i record tv programs with sony handycam?

i have a sony dcr-trv33 and it says on the manual i can record tv from it. but the problem is that when i hook up the camera to the tv it doesnt show on the LCD display so it records nothing. I have one of those tv/dvd/vcr combos the ones that come built in. It has all the color connections i need. DOes someone know whats wrong? I also tried changing the setting in the menu from LCD to LCD-V out....

Make sure that you are connecting to output jacks on your TV. Most TV sets only have A/V input jacks, not output jacks. This may be particularly true with a combo unit where the need for output jacks is not as important. If you have a standalone VCR with A/V output jacks, use it for a test. Also, make sure your video cable is not defective.

Once you are sure you are actually getting audio and video from your cables, make sure you have gone through the camera manual to see if you need to make a menu choice to switch to A/V input as your audio/video source. Some camcorders will automatically switch to the A/V jacks when the camera senses the plug, others will need to be set up in A/V record mode through the menus.

And, finally, many cameras will not record from the A/V in jacks by pressing the camera record button. You have to put the camera in playback (VCR) mode and then use a record button or remote button to put the VCR function into record. Once again, check the manual carefully.

Please follow my instruction:
1. Connect the Yellow RAC cable to the Video-Out of your TV and the other side of that Yellow cable, to the Video-In of your camera.(usually yellow)
2. Connect both Red and White RCA cables to the Sound-Out of your TV and the other side to your -In of your camera. (to record sounds along video)
3. Set your camera to turn on the input signals. To set it, maybe you have to go to the advanced or recording or maybe Jack menus. Almost Jack menu is used under some of these menus. So, set the camera to use Jack-In to be able to see images from your tv.

-Note that the camera function must be in record section.
-Note that If you have a cable that one side of it is 3 RCA (Yellow, Red and White) and the other side is a mini triple RCA (it coonects to your camera), connect all the RCAs (Yellow, Red and White) to the TV's out jacks, and the mini RCA to the camera's specialized Input.
