How do I import video from my camcorder to my PC?

I have a Sony Mini DV Digital Handycam. I have a USB cable that connects to my computer that came with the camera, but it will only load pics off the memory stick. I suppose I will need a firewire cable that connects from my camcorder to my PC? I have a firewire port built into my PC so I won't have to worry about that. My camcorder never came with the software, is there a site where I may be able to download the appropriate software for importing video from cam to pc?

Depending on the model and the features available in that model, here are a few things that you can do to achieve your objective:
1 -- If you have firewire port in your camcorder, get a firewire card installed in your PC and then using the s/w provided with the camcorder, transfer the video onto the pc.
2 -- If your camcorder supports USB streaming, then you can you the USB port on your PC to get the video transfered onto your PC.
3 -- If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the digital o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC

For the software/drivers.. you should be able to download it from http://www.sony.com

if you have xp then go to windows movie maker ...connect your handy cam thru usb... select import from video device in movie maker....and follow the simple steps below in movie making tips ... alternatively the handy cam comes with a software known as picture package .. if you didn't get one insist one from the dealer..visit Sony's site ppackage
