i took some pictures wit digital camera...but they seem too dark...how do i improve their colour n brightness by usin adobe photoshop????? or any better software is there???? Adobe photoshop is full of advertising gunk, in my opinion get The Gimp

Both are FREE and do the job without hogging your computers resources. The Gimp is in many ways equal to Photoshop, you could also download Picasa 2 from google but if you are wanting to actually print the photos I would go for the first 2 choices. use photoshop you can make it really light nad really dark too.u can pick parts of the pic and change their look! it's really cool and it has so many things in it! In Photoshop, the absolute best tool for this, one that minimizes distortion of color and contrast, is adjusting the LEVELS.
Go under the pull down menu IMAGE > ADJUST > then LEVELS. First try the AUTO LEVELS. That usually clears out murk and darkness, making the photo very clear and well lit. But sometimes, AUTO LEVELS makes the contrast too harsh. If this is the case, go under regular LEVELS, and play with the sliding controls there (with "preview" clicked) until you get what you want. This is somewhat trial and error, so be prepared to back back a step and try again a few times.

PS- Gimp is freeware for dabblers, Photoshop is what pros use. You have to decide which will fill your needs best. There are no ads in Photoshop, so I have no idea what that other poster means when he says that. In my experience, freeware and shareware always has ads. Pro programs, never. for adobe photoshop;
go to the toolbar on top.. image > adjustments > brightness/contrast.
or u can go to image > adjustments > curves and move the curve accordingly.
while doing any adjustments, there'll be a preview at your original pic.
