Still capture from an AVI?

Ok I dont know much about this however being in IT they expect you to know everything. One of our agents screwed up and had their digital camera set to video instead of still. Basically I need to capture a Single frame from this video and I have absolutely no budget to buy anything.

Software is nothing specal just Office 2000 and the stuff built in to windows.

Oh Yeah I just wanted to add that print screen dosent actually make a screenshot of the frame needed it just takes a blank media player screenshot.

using the "print screen" button is very unlikely to work, as videos are often played via overlay, so you will probably just capture a big black box where the picture should be if you use the print screen method everyone is suggesting.

download virtualdub from the link below, open the file and drag the bar to the frame you want, go to the video menu and choose "copy source frame to clipboard" then paste the frame into paint/photoshop/whatever and save it to a jpg.

this method 100% works, but you could also try programs specifically to do this for you, see the second link.

Play the AVI on your computer. When you get to the frame you want to capture, hold down ALT and press the Prt Scrn key. This will copy the active window (the one with the AVI playing) to the Windows clipboard.

Now open Paint and paste in the screen capture from the clipboard by pressing CTRL-V. You may need to edit the image to remove any unneeded material, but you'll have your frame.

Well what do you have a PC OR A MAC>? for a mac i have no idea but for a PC you go to START>>ALL POGRAMS>>ACESORIES>>WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER then import the clip and by the screen where the video plays there is a small camera click on it and there you have it !

play the avi in your browser. when the image appears that you want to capture press the Print Scrn SysRq key to the right of the F12 key on a qwerty keyboard. this capures the entire screen including the browser.

open windows paint and paste that image in there. click on the cropping tool and cut out your image. then click on NEW and paste the image that you cut out of the big one. then click on FILE/SAVE AS to save it to your hard drive
