I am unable to add any new hardware to my PC? Help?

I have tried adding my IPOD, MP3 player and digital camera each time it says no new hardware found even when I have the disks after windows wizard has done a search. It is a new PC and I'm thinking that there may be some software missing!!!!

You should plug each into the computer's USB port first, then add the drivers at the prompt. It usually won't add anything without being able to find it first.

sounds like you have a usb problem. try downloading usb drivers

plug them into usb port, then restart computer, it should say new hardware found.

If it is a newly bought PC and is not detecting new USB devices when they are plugged in, then there is a problem with either the hardware or software which should have been checked before it was sold to you.

My advice is to return it under warranty and ask for it to be repaired as new USB devices should be detected almost as soon as they are plugged in and turned on. If they are not being detected, there is a problem with the USB ports that they should sort out. It could be that the USB ports are disabled in the motherboard BIOS settings, or that some of the motherboard drivers were not installed in Windows meaning that it cannot detect the ports correctly; in either case the problem should be clear by going into Device Manager (Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware (tab) -> Device Manager (button)) and scrolling down to the bottom of the list of devices where it says 'Universal Serial Bus controllers'. Click on the '+' to expand what is underneath it and you should see one or more 'Host Controller' entries and also 'Root Hub' entries, if they are missing or there is a yellow '!' or red 'x', then they should be able to be fixed with either a driver update, or by simply enabling it (a red 'x' means it is disabled).

But if it is not too inconvenient, have whoever supplied you with the computer fix the problem themselves otherwise there are likely to be lots of other people whose computers have non-functional USB ports, and maybe other problems too.

I had that problem with my camera the other day. I plugged it in to my desktop with XP professional installed and away it went. Xp home is a bit useless at times - although not as bad as VISTA! Or so I'm told...

There may be any problem in your software or you dont have specific software for that hardware.
OR
There will be any problem in your mother board. Check it by an expert.
