I need some computer help? |
I have a windows 98 computer, and yes i know they are out and are old. i have this digital camera that puts itself into drive D b/c that is the default of the software but i dont have a drive d on my computer, C is my default. how do you format a D? or how do you put it into a C so that it will work, b/c when i hook the camera up the found new hardware does not pop up like it is supposed too...also how do you reformatt your harddrive from a windows 98 to an XP? is that possible? or do you have to buy a whole new computer? thanks for any help y'all can offer! I will assume your camera uses USB (the large majority does). Decently working USB wasn't really even added until late windoze 98, which was second edition. I would like to make a suggestion before you consider the upgrade or replacement to XP. 1) Is the digital camera installed? If it is, you shouldn't have to worry about anything else. Just download the camera software from the web and install it on your C drive. You can't just format a drive that doesn't exist in the first place. Plug your camera into another USB port to get that message to come up. After you attach the camera and install the drivers (assuming that there are drivers for Windows 98) the camera will appear as a new drive named D. If you open that drive with the camera connected and powered up, you will be able to see the files that are the pictures you took with the camera. You place the pictures on your computer by coping the files to your C drive. To upgrade to XP, it will work as long as your pc meets the minimum specs for windows XP. if it does not, you would either have to upgrade your pc or get a new one. Your camera should be drive D and your computer hard drive drive C. You should be able to pull pictures off of drive D and move them to your C drive. It has been a while since I used Windows 98 but I am assuming you are using a USB connection and then using My Computer or Windows Explorer to look at the drives? When you plug the camera in, it will find the hardware and then assign itself the next available drive letter which seems to be D. This means your camera is a separate drive. |
