Can someone tell me if there is any freeware that will let you recover lost photo from a memory card?

My mother accidentally formatted my digital camera and I lost all my photos. I can only find paid software that can do this. Is there anything that's free that can recover photo from a memory card?

memory cards store a picture as a file. to the computer it can be just a well be a document.

find software that recovers "deleted files" for a computer, then specify the "drive": "my computer" and you see a letter like "g:" this may be for memory card. - to see the drive unplug the camera, then replug in- you will see a new drive/letter

Recommend find a technical person and ask them if they know about memory cards- and have a reader they may help you.

Tip: always backup you photos- ideally Burn to CD
