My husband has purchased me a new digital camera and my comp. is too full of garbage to install the software therefore we are courious as to how we cAN STACK TWO HARD DRIVES IN ORDER TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE...THX Yes, set the second to "cable select" (usually is by default) and add it to the second connector on the ribbon cable.
You will need to format it. and perhaps initialize it.
Ping me if you need help. This would be easier to diagnose if specific information about your computer make was added.
Firstly, take off the case cover and locate the Hard drive rack. take it out and screw in the new harddrive. there should be two cables plugged into the existing hard drive: a power cable and a data cable. These cables should have another plug on the bundle that can be plugged into the corresponding spaces on the new hard drive. If possible, you want to keep both hard drives plugged into the same bundle. Make sure that the use selector (plastic bit that fits over two pins on the back of the drive) is set to master (MA) on your old drive and slave (SL) on your new drive. Turn on the computer- your operating system should find the drive on its own. Most computers will have an extra spot to put another hard drive. Usually it's right next to your other hard drive, so I assume that's why you use the word "stack".
You just buy a new hard drive and hook it up in the empty slot. The hard drive will show up in My Computer as a new empty drive.
It sounds like your old hard drive is VERY full. If you do put in a second hard drive, try moving all your music, photos and videos onto the new hard drive. Windows is installed on your first hard drive, so anytime you install something into Windows it's going to get saved on the first hard drive. But you can still move big read-only files onto the new drive.
You might be able to buy a big one and just transfer everything to it. But I'm not familiar with that process if it's possible Set one as the master and one as the slave, then connect each to the ribboncable. Don't forget to enter the BIOS setup, and set it to detect the new HD, the manual for your computer should explain how. |
