Suppose I have an MPEG-type movie file (with extension .mpg). How do I extract an audio file (MP3, WMA, WAV, and OGG are all fine) from it? The audio file must be able to stand alone, i.e., does not change if the original movie is altered or deleted.
Please give detailed instructions and not just a generalization like "Go and download something off the Internet" or "Ask a pro." If it requires a program, then I would like to use one that I already have: Windows XP, Windows Media Player 10, FreeRIP 2.951, Roxio 5 Basic, Nero Express, and the software that came with my Sony DSC-H1 digital camera (which can shoot movies). If it requires a different program, then it should be free and downloadable (provide a URL). Please give instructions on using the program.
Also, the program must work automatically, not manually (playing the movie and recording it is manual). For it to be automatic, I should be able to convert a 10-minute movie to a 10-minute audio file in less than 10 minutes. Thanks! (laughs) You sure do ask for a lot, sesquip!! Okay, I'll give it a go:
1. Freebie app to download: VirtualDub Mod, available here: http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/
2. Open the mpeg file with it by selecting "File>Open Video File" and navigating to your mpeg file.
3. After the file is imported, return to the file menu and select "Streams>Stream List"
4. Click the "Save to Wav" button (that will appear on the lower right of the dialog box) which will prompt you both for a location to save the wave file as well as the chance to name the file.
5. After making your choices with that, click "Okay".
Technically, since it's only making a *copy* of the audio layer, the the original video file will not be affected in any way.
For me it rendered the audio of a 40 second avi video as a wave file in 24 seconds..which is about twice as fast as real (manual) time with the default settings. |
