I'm Interested in making clay mation
I know the parts about the clay and movements and backdrops
im just not sure as to how to record everything
Do i use a video camera or can i use a digital camera???
I have movie making software but i still need tips. Hi!
I'm not a professional animator, but I did do a stop-motion project for a college project.
I found that a digital camera worked best for me. It had to be secured in a fixed position. I didn't have a good tripod, so I 'fixed' it to the stage with tape. And you also need a fixed, steady light source. Make sure to close any windows near your stage if you filming inside. Otherwise, you'll have varying lighting. You can use a video camera for scenes that do not need any animation. Like you, I had no one to teach me the fine points of animation, so I learned through trail and error. Try different things and see what works best for you.
If you're serious about stop-motion, there are several books that you can buy to really get to know the craft. Try any bookstores, Ebay, or Amazon.
I hope this helps! Good Luck!!! Do a Google Search under Claymation and you'll find everything from animation studio websites to student plans and supply retailers. Keep digging and you'll probably find a few tutorials on camera type and placement. No matter how detailed a subject is, by the fourth Search with successively more precise keywords, you usually hit paydirt. Try claymation + digital cameras + hard disk and see what pops up. Since video really eats up memory, that might lead you to other useful places. |
