How can I splice/edit my video and sound files?

I have a long MP3 file and want to take a 10-second chunk out of the middle. Same idea with some of the videos I've taken on my digital camera. Is there free software I can use to edit my videos and sound files?

Yeah. I use "wavepad" freeware for my mp3's and solveig avi trimmer (also freeware) for vids. However if your vids are not originally avi format, get "any video converter" freeware and convert them to avi, then use the trimmer. Good luck
