I have a program called Pivot Stickfigure Animator that saves an animation as a .gif file (which is usually a picture file, but in this case, an animation). Usually, Windows Movie Maker (version 2.1.4026.0 if you must know) allows me to import the file into collections and plays the animation just fine, but I think I missed it up:
I installed the software that came with my new Sony digital camera, and all the animated .gif files no longer played the animation, they just showed the first frame for the default 30 seconds as a picture file would.
I realised what I had done and uninstalled the camera software, but then it no longer allowed me to import the .gif files into my collections at all. The ones that were already on my timeline did not show up. I have tried everything I could think of, and could not correct the problem. I hope I have given you all the necessary information for you to have a good answer. Error message when trying to import the file:
C:\Program Files\Pivot Stickfigure Animator\animations\movie\scene2.gif could not be imported. The selected file is not valid or is corrupted. I have a couple of simple suggestions...hope they help you.
1. Restore the default file associations for gifs: My Computer (or Windows Explorer) -> Tools -> Folder Options -> Gif File and select 'Restore'
2. If you still have the .piv files, regenerate animated gifs in Pivot to replace the 'corrupted' files.
For more in-depth info and assistance about WMM (and potential codec issue), I'd recommend you visit the Windows Movie Maker forum.

Good luck :) Sorry that the first two suggestions didn't help...hope you get good results from the WMM forum. Report It
