How do you use a camera as a web cam?

I have a small digital camera which says it can be used as a web cam, but I don't know how to install or use it? Do I have to install more software or are web cam only used in certain programmes. My daughter uses MSN and want to be able to see here friends as they all have cameras

if you are using the camera as a webcam for messenger for example or even skype ,then when you set up your messenger account and configure the program/software then just pick the camera as your defualt webcam
as long as it receives images(which a digital camera does)then it will be accepted as a webcam.your daughter should be fine aswell,infact as webcams use pretty bad lenses and your camera will probally have a 4 to 6 mega-pixel lens your picture quality will be much better
note:before you can use the camera as a webcam you will have to install its normall software so windows xp will recognize it as a valid device

you might need to install it on to your PC first

plug it in and see if it recognises it
then log in to msn and go to options, it should detect that u have a camera attached/installed

once it's connected to the pc (and if you are running Windows XP) it should work. XP carries the drivers for most cameras.

She will need to go into "options" in MSN Messenger and make sure that the camera is actually selected as default. If additional software didn't come with the camera, it shouldn't need it.

What kind of camera is it?
A model number would be a great place to start when asking for a hardware solution....
