Ccd vs SOFTWARE ENHANCED ??

i bought a new creative digital camera (divi cam 525d) and its can take pictures by "5mp ccd" and by "11 mp SOFTWARE ENHANCED" and i dont know the diffrence between software and ccd

5mp ccd is the true resolution.

11mp sw enhanced: The camera takes few pictures with some
shift in the pixels and combines them to get a finer resolution.
should be better than 5mp, but not always, it will depend on the
content/lighting of the picture.
