Need a good web site for comparing point&shoot digital cameras? Do U have a camera that you like or recommend?

I currently have a 2.0 megapixel Kodak... It's about 3 years old and I am getting really annoyed with the EasyShare software (for a variety of reasons). I don't think I need more than 7 megapixels, but I would like a pretty good optical zoom.

(Yes, I know you can zoom digitally, especially with more pixels, but I have my own preferences.)

ANY info you would like to share would be appreciated!

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

Definitely check out Consumer Reports, they review cameras fairly often and are very thorough.

July's issue of Consumer Reports should be on newsstands now or check it out at local library. July's issue is digital cameras. There's always Website dpreview.com where people give reviews of their camera including what they don't like about it.
For zoom, I recommend my camera. Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. 12X optical zoom, 6 megapixels, will give you an excellent 8X10, has image stabilizer, very good on AA rechargeable battery life, only 1 second delay between shots, and comes with battery charger. Has manual controls, or just leave on auto. Should run about $280 today; I paid more back in Nov.

I like this website http:www.dcresource.com

I have a Canon Powershot SD800 IS, and I LOVE it.
It has 7MP (which more than enough), it has a wide-angle lens, 3.8x optical zoom, and Image Stabilization.
I bought it at Best Buy for $399.

Another option is the Canon TX1, which has 10x optical zoom, 7MP, Image Stabilization and can record HD video.
It's about $500.

Another option would be the Canon S3 IS or S5 IS.
The main difference between the two are megapixels and screen size. The S3 has 12x optical zoom, a 2.0'' screen and 6MP, and the S5 has 12x optical zoom, a 2.5'' screen and 8MP. They both are really good cameras though.

good luck

OK- time for a new digicam. There are many terrific cameras out there, and some lame ones (even from respected brands). For instance- I wouldn't buy a Nikon P5000. It's got a good zoom and excellent image quality, but its auto-focus speed is so slow, it will drive you nuts.

My favorite review site is www.dpreview.com. it provides the most thorough reviews, but the least number of them. They only review particularly interesting cameras.

Also check out:
www.imaging-resource.com/
www.steves-digicams.com/
and
www.dcresource.com/

They each have their own style of reviewing.

I wouldn't trust the previously mentioned Consumer Reports or Yahoo reviews. It's just not their specialty. The aforementioned guys live and breathe digicams.

You're right- you don't need more than 7 Mpix. And there are plenty of terrific new cameras with bigger zooms. If you want to keep the size small, consider the Panasonic TZ3. It has a 10x zoom which goes from 28-280mm. That's a lot *wider* than most start at, and it really makes a difference. But, if you're a bird watcher- you might like the Olympus SP550UZ as it has a class leading 18x zoom (wow) and some pretty nice features. You do give up a bit of image quality to get that much zoom though. (such is life)

I agree 110% with Morey's answer, including his negative comments about Consumer Reports. They just don't make sense to me sometimes. I read an answer to a letter that said that the total score takes into account factors that are not enumerated in the test, so we can't really know what makes up that score. I guess they are better than nothing, but I think they are looking for something different in a camera than I am.

Anyhow, in addition to the list Morey gave you 鈥?which is indeed a list of the top 4 review sites 鈥?here are some more for you to check out in case it rains over the 4th and you can't do anything outside.
