Unless you use the e-mail option when you take the photo, the images on your camera have a filesize that is too big for general web use. They'll take ages to load into your visitors's browser. The whole file will load and the browser will then have to resize it to display it at the size you've specified.
The file also contains information which doesn't contribute to the image, such as the date, the camera model and so on.
Its better to load the image on to your pc then use a graphics application to re-size a copy of the photo. Then use the "save for web" option. This will save your pictures in the jpeg format, and strip out all of the unecessary info to speed up loading times.
