My laptop isn't recognizing my digital camera?

Help me!! My laptop isn't recognizing my camera for some reason. It has worked before but now for some reason the box won't pop up when I use the USB cord to plug it in. I have also tried to go to a program myself and upload the pictures but it tells me that there is no connection. I have downloaded the software on the CD and my camera will work on my other computer just not my laptop. Please, if you know what is wrong tell me!!!

I'm not an expert so these are just some random thoughts that might help. Without knowing what operating system you're using I'm going to assume it's Windows XP. With your camera connected to the computer, when you go into My Computer (click start button > my computer) do you see your camera in the Scanners and Cameras section? If yes, that usually means something in the operating system is recognizing it. Try to uninstall/delete all mention of the camera (drivers, etc.) to give you a clean system to start the install wizard from scratch. You might even have to search all files and folders for your camera's brand name. (Start > search > all files and folders. Type in brand name and under advanced options makes sure to search system files, hidden files, and subfolders. If the search finds anything, delete it.)

Next, check your USB ports to make sure they're OK. You can go to Device Manager to do this (start > run > type in devmgmt.msc > OK.) A dialog box will open. Scroll down to USB controllers and click the plus sign. That will open a tree for all your USB ports. Double click each name and another dialog box will open that tells you if it's working properly. If you find any problems you can follow the troubleshooting prompts or go to the Driver tab to find out if you have the lastest driver installed fro that particular USB device.

If all checks OK, makes sure your camera has fresh batteries or is plugged in to AC current. Computer should be on but leave the camera turned off for now. Connect the USB cord to the camera and then to the computer. Turn the camera on. XP should recognize it through plug and play. If it doesn't, you'll need to try a manual install.

Unplug the camera from the USB port. Click start > control panel > double click scanners and cameras. Click add an imaging device to access the install wizard and then click next to see a list of cameras recognized by XP. If yours is on the list follow the prompts.

Finally, if the plug and play or manual install don't work, try the installation CD. I've found that each device and each manufacturer has slightly different rules. Some want the device to be plugged in to the computer and turned on when using the install CD. Others say leave the device unplugged until the install CD prompts you to plug it in. the CD should have a read me file that gives the specifics.

As I said, I'm not an expert so I apologize for not having a better answer.
