Digital Camera/Computer question, plz help if you can.?

I have a digial camara, I had the software loaded on my pc before, but had to have some work done on it, lost everything and had to re-load my programs.
I re-installed the software for the digial camera. Took a bunch of pics on my camera and then tried to hook up my camera to my pc and transfer the pics. My computer doesnt seem to recognize that I have the camera plugged into it. Yes i turned the camera on and to the proper setting to transfer.
Any idea's what might be wrong? Where to start? Sound like a pc problem or a camera problem? I did try uninstalling and reinstalling the program. The batteries were freshly charge too.
Thanks in advance for any help ;)

I run windows 98.
The camera is an older Toshiba.
I have tried using different USB ports. Altho I didn't try plugging in something else that uses a usb port.
if it is the usb port what can i do to fix that?

Hmm, this problem is rarely seen in Windows XP though it does sometimes occur in older OS.

A) First, see whether the problem is from the camera (usually the memory card), or the computer (usually because it is missing the driver). If you have another computer, try plugging the camera into that computer (with software installed) and see what happens. If it is recognized, it is a computer issue, not a camera issue (go to Step C). If none of the computers recognize the camera, go to Step B.

B) To see why the camera cannot be detected by the computer, try using different methods to connect. Try to get a computer with a memory card reader and insert your camera's memory card into the PC. If the card is readable and you can see its contents, you may have a problem with your USB connection (go to Step C). If you really can't get ahold of a card reader, simply open your camera to view mode and see if all of your data is there, if so, no data is corrupt and go to Step C.

C) I am willing to bet 80% of my money that this problem is a computer problem since your camera seemed to work fine before (assuming that you have previously transferred pictures onto the computer). In fact, Windows 98 and later has the plug and play option, therefore allowing you to access the camera even without a program from the CD. This is because the memory card is considered a Removable Drive. When you plug in the camera via USB and turned your camera on, (hopefully you have Windows XP) there should be a small bubble saying it has detected an unknown device or it has detected a mass storage device. In My Computer, if the Removable Drive [:"letter"] does not show, try unplugging the USB and replugging it. If nothing shows, try going to Control Panels --> Add/Remove Hardware to see if it can detect the camera. If this also does not work, try uninstalling the program and try again (the program is usually not mandatory as it is not a driver but a photo editing program). Meanwhile, also go to your camera's support website to see if there are any available drivers for your camera. If this doesnt work, I think I will need a bit more details...

Bottom line: I believe that this is a connectivity problem (not a camera problem, not a computer problem, as nothing is "broken"). If nothing works, I ask you to please help me to some troubleshooting and email me with details if you want further help.
When emailing me, tell me:
1. The brand of the camera and the type of memory card
2. The OS of the computer and what method you are using to connect the camera.
3. If the USB port is working or not (try plugging in another USB device to see if the computer is recognizing it).
4. Does the camera LCD show anything when the pc is connected (E.g. USB Connect, USB Busy, etc).
5. Does the computer show any messages whatsoever when you plug in the camera.
6. Have you ever transferred photos before.
7. When "work" was done on your PC and what settings were changed.

maybe your usb cable, try with another one ore your usb port, try with anoter one

plug in the Digi cam in 2 USB port and then upgrade the drive then it will refreshed.then it will works.Try it.
If it not works reinstall OS again ( In XP it is plug and play )

if you have any other usb devices i would see if they are working on the port ... if so then google ur camera model and look for a driver.

Are you running Windows XP? The software should detect the camera when you plug the USB cable into the computer. If nor, go to "control panel", click "add remove programs", and delete the camera software. Then re-install it, and try to download the camera. XP has a "camera/scanner wizard " that should work for you, but if not, re-install the software.

You might make sure you are using version 2 of Windows 98. That version fixes some problems when reading the USB plug & Play devices.

SInce M$ no longer supports win 98 I dont know where you wouild find the version 2 upgrade for win 98. Personally I would spend about 125 dollars and get a full install CD of XP Home.
