I am using my sony digital camera for pics of some small jewelry items. 1)How do i best take closeups without the pic getting blurry when i zoom in?2) I think there are some free softwares i can use to later enhance the quality of the pics. Any ideas? The best photos start in the camera. Composition, lighting, and other techiques reduce post-photo correction.
1) a. Shooting jewerly usually requires using a tripod, so there is no camera movement (camera movement cannot be corrected in the darkroom or with a program.
b. Sharp focus is necessary to get good images. If your camera will not fill the frame with your jewerly and still be in focus you will need to correct that with a macro lens or add-on closeup filter (lens).
2) Enhancement of photos are only necessary when the photographer does not do his job correctly. At over $150 per hour for computer "touch-up" time it costs far less to reshoot the subject and it is worth more knowing the production skills than the post-production "saving" skills to a client.
Again, enhancing the quality of a image is done at the time the image is captured. Exposure, sharp focus, filling the frame edge to edge, good composition and design are all those things the photographer is responsible for when he presses the shutter release. To knock out the blurriness, choose the "little flower" setting on the camera when you take the picture - this is meant for close-ups.
For editing, I like Photoshop for the vast possibilities and ease. (Yes, it takes a bit longer to learn everything, but that's because there is so many cool things you can do). There are free tutorials all over the web. Light the items well. Use a tripod. Use a small aperature like f16 or f22 for best depth of field. Focus on the front of the item rather than the back. Crop and sharpen with your photo editing software.
Don't use auto - it's great for most situations but it's probably causing you problems with this one. |
