Why cant i get my photos off my digital camera?

ive just bought a digital camera, taken some photos, put software on computer. pluged camera via usb into computer. mesage comes up saying. it needs to be conected to a high speed port. what and where is that or why is it not working, shouldnt it be simple or am i doing somthing stupid. thanks for any help

You need a USB 2.0 port (or high speed). You must be running an older computer. You can get a new PCI card to put in your machine at any computer store. Tell them what you need and they will help you find it. Places like CompUSA and Best Buy will install it there for you. They may charge you though.

What the computer is saying is that it wants you to use a USB port on the front-side of the computer. That's all pretty much all i can tell you from expereence.

This error usually means that the device (camera in your case) is only usb 2 compatible. You must be plugging in to usb 1. You can easily upgrade to usb 2 by buying a new pci card from ebay. avoid the ones from hong kong though

A high speed port means a USB 2.0 Port which is about 10 times better than USB 1.0. That makes transfer faster, however it should still work on a USB 1 port. What you should do, if you have XP, is the following. Try it even if you don't -

Click on My computer (when camera is plugged in, swithched on)

You should see a drive saying removable disk.

Open this removable disk, then the folders in that and your photos should come up.

Hi well I just got a digital camera for Christmas.
Ok well first you have to make sure you have it in the right slot. Than make sure its plugged into your camera. Oh and Make sure your connected to the inter net then wait till the camera is done transfering than save your pics.

How old is your computer? There are two speeds of USB hubs. I own a Mac, and my digital camera, Printer, and iPod all need to be hooked up to high speed hubs. If your computer has more than one USB port, than I would try connecting it to each port and seeing if any of them work. If not, you can get a high speed hub installed, but it can be pricey. My suggestion would be to pick up a memory card reader. You can get them for as low as $9.99 at any office supply store, you plug it into your USB, insert the card, and then go! It makes uploading much faster, and even though I have high-speed USB hubs, I still use one. They're often designed to accept more than one card format (i.e. - memory stick, flashcard, etc.), and can come in quite handy!! Hope this helps :)

Perhaps you might find that if your hardware is quite old you may be running usb 1 and not usb 2? alternatively ditch your floppy drive for a card reader. you can pick one up for about a 15 quid. Check out the link :

just egnore that notice its always coming up on my computer as well but everything is fine its not slow or anything

Needs to be a usb port.

Ok, Caveman, Don't worry about comments. Just be sure that your software is well-installed and the driver too. Then after plug your usb cable and wait a while even though you read the message, In few moments your camera will be connected. If it's not working, I told you to wait a while, three or five minutes are enough, then unplug your cable and re-start the computer. Do the steps again. Maybe you need a 2.0 port but it'll actually read your camera no matter what port is. As the message says, "High speed" It doesn't say "no connected", so be patience.
Luck.

:)
Basically the computer in which you are running is probably only harvesting USB slots. In previous years USB 2 has been brought about and is much faster and capable of carrying data at a quicker rate.
Your computer is obviously telling you that the port in which you are using isn;t of a sufficient speed and you would probably benefit from getting hold of a PCI card with USB 2 on.
The overall benefit of doing this will mean, in future, if you ever get a new printer or something will be that it is much faster and less of a delay sending data too and from things.

And no, It's not stupid.

easiest way is to buy a compatible card reader and plug
into usb port
