I want to have the same set up as photographers who do "sessions" where the camera is USB'd to the computer and you can take photos which instantly transfer to the computer for editing / viewing / printing etc etc. I need to do long sesions of taking product photos and it would be great to not have to stop and upload all the time! you need a "utility" program.
hyper-utility is one that is used w/ fuji
eos-utility is for canon
usually, if your camera can perform the function for utility shoots, it is expensive enough that the software comes "free" with it. your camera has to be a professional level camera to have that option.
the camera is "tethered", not "USB'd"; firewire is faster than USB, by the way.
just have to buy the software. you might be able to purchase it online & download it from the website of your brand of camera.
something to be aware of: the cable that tethers the camera to the laptop often slips out slightly, ruining the connection. you have to restart the program and camera. it's a huge pain. you should use velcro or tape or something to keep those cables in tight. it's a mess when it comes undone. An interesting question so I powered up my digital camera but when I plugged in the usb cable to the computer it shut down the picture taking function. In other words I couldn't do both at once. I suggest you take your camera to a camera store and talk to a professional there. Some may have the capability where others may not. Don't forget you need your usb cable long enough to cover the distance between your camera and your computer. Good Luck. |
