Transferring photos from camera to computer when travelling...?

I'm going travelling soon and would like to upload photos from my camera for a website (flickr) for friends & family to see. I was hoping to do this in internet cafes. The problem I have is I don't know how to get them out of my camera - if I use the cable I normally use at home that would require the software to be downloaded on each computer every time which I don't think will be possible. Are there any other options? I don't have an I-Pod or an MP3 player. Thanks.

I can't take a laptop with me on this trip so it's not an option. Also if you could recommend the best way to transfer the photos (is there a flash drive I could use instead of carrying the cable with me... the more space I can save the better?) Thanks... the camera is Panasonic Lumix.

You should be able to just use Microsoft explorer to get the pictures off of the camera. When you attach the camera it should come up as another drive. Depending on the camera and the operating system you may need to download the drivers. But don鈥檛 worry; you can put those on computers as needed.
Try this at home first to make sure you have it all working to your satisfaction. The ipod or MP3 could work but a laptop would be a bit easier to get them uploaded to flickr.

Edit on additional info
No Laptop means that you'll be using public computers at the cybercafe or library. Just take along a USB card reader for you memory stick. If you don't have one already you should get one regardless of your trip. It is a good way to get to photos if your camera is not charged.

Get a card reader that you can plug into the USB slot. It will open just like any other external drive, no software needed.
Try it at home before you go.

I'll be returning home from a 10 month round the world trip tomorrow and I've updated my website with several hundred pictures along the way, so I have some experience.

For the website, I brought along a card reader and I had image software on one of my memory cards (Nikon Viewer, in my case). Whenever I wanted to update my website, I'd
* pop into an Internet cafe,
* copy my selection for the website from my memory cards to a temporary folder on the internet computer,
* then I would reduce the quality AND resolution of those pictures so that each file would become 800*600 pixels, and less than 150KB (the originals were between 3 and 5MB each). With Nikon Viewer and other programs, you can bulk process this - there's no need to fuss around with each picture individually.
* I'd turn those small pictures into individual web pages with galleries, etc... but you can skip that step if you're using Flickr,
* and finally I'd upload everything.
By reducing the file sizes before you upload, you'll save yourself a ton of computer time (and money). Obviously, you do keep all of the original files for making prints.

For backups - you didn't ask, but what the heck - I brought along spare memory cards. Whenever one memory card filled up, I'd burn it to a DVD at a Kodak shop or Internet cafe and send it to a friend. Then I'd switch to a second memory card until my friend emailed me that the DVD had arrived safely. Only then would I re-use that memory card.

Have a great trip!
