Can someone please recommend a good (preferrably free or low cost) picture-editing computer software?

I take lots of pics with my digital camera, and would like some new software to edit my pics, such as darkening, lightening, red-eye removal etc. One with lots of extras that I could use to play around with my pics would be great, too. I have Corel Photo Album 6 but it's only a trial, plus it's getting kind of annoying. I would prefer something free I can download that I don't have to complete offers and stuff to get it. Any suugestions on a program would be great!!!

Here are a few for you to try. I particularly like the offering from Serif. It's not the latest version, of course, but it gives you a good introduction to photo-editing.

Oops! I forgot to say. These are all free programs, as in they don't cost you anything, and they're all legitimate downloads. (You might like to try some of the other offerings from Serif whilst you're there ... all free.)

Gimp2.2 is completely free. No strings attached. It can do anything that Photoshop can do.

this is really good.. i use it for all my pictures

:)

This is free and you don't have to download anything.

Go to mytheme.com --- it appears as though it's a graphics site. At the top of the page you will see a page entitled "Animation" -- click on there.
You load your pics there and edit them. You can even do cosmetic surgery and just about EVERYTHING else. I use it all the time......it's awesome.

Most versions of Linux come with a software package called ImageMagic which has a program called "display" - its pretty primative, but it can get you through simple mods.

I have it.

Get GIMP. It's free. It has a lot of the functionality of Photoshop but not all of it. It's pretty good though, definitely worth a look.

Otherwise Adobe Lightroom is specifically for photographers and designed just to to that sort of stuff. Or Adobe Image Ready. But those aren't as cheap.

There is a free one thats just great called the GIMP it can be found here http://gimp.org/ .

GIMP is the best free photo editing sofware

but if you just want to crop or lighten or red eye removal or something like that... then get picasa which is also free

but try GIMP first.

Here's a good free one, that a friend told me about. Scroll to the very bottom and download the first link for XnView v1.93.1 Complete version (Some Plugins/Addons & NConvert, ShellEx, Media Detector)

oriens enhancer is a breeze with great features.....you can upgrade to his rhaman imager.....just google oriens enhancer...im a pro but this stuff is a bit more intuative than gimp or that bloated adobe stuff.

Photo Plus 6..available from

Picasa is the first one that I've liked in all the areas you mentioned. Google it and you'll get free links. Forgot where I got it.
I had Kodak Easyshare and it was a total nightmare - acted like AOL. Tried to take over everything and didn't do very good at what it was supposed to. Red-eye reduction was horrible!
Also tried Photoshop - trial version - and wasn't happy.

Adobe Photoshop C S3 is suppose to set the standard for the industry, at over $600 for the package it should. Adobe Photoshop Element 3 is a good choice at around $80. Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 is suppose to very good and highly recommended for ease of use for beginners more so than Adobe. We use the Adobe, HP Photosmart Essential, which you can find on HP'S sight free, and Canon's PhotoStich. The Canon product just has the basic features, where the Adobe and Corel have advanced features and functionality. The HP is in between the two more advanced feature products, but it is free too. The Canon rapid browser utility is excellent for rapidly organizing numerous shots into groups or dates, or customized folders. I would start with the HP and then explore the others after you become accustomed to it. Good luck.
