Adobe photoshop?

Hi guys. I have been shooting for a little while now and all my photos so far have been in jpeg format. I am upgrading my camera soon and want to start shooting in all RAW. My question concerns adobe photshop.

I know there are several versions and add on to the whole adobe line of products. Could somebody give me a run down of what all of these programs do and which one I should start with. Prices would be nice to. I am mainly needing to know which software I should start with to learn how to digitaly manipulate raw images. I am asking about adobe because it seems to be the industry standard. If there are alternatives then those would be nice as well.

There's Photoshop Elements for around $100, Lightroom for around $300, and Photoshop for around $649 they all do raw image processing.

EDIT I was hoping that someone would expand on this answer, so I'll try.

Elements has the basic raw processing.

Photoshop CS has more sliders, so it can do more.

Lightroom is the same as Photoshop CS with the exception that it has presets.

Elements will do quite a bit for the money. But you will need to get the right plug-in for both your camera and version of Elements. I have Elements 3.0 and I can still get RAW plug-ins for most cameras. I have not used any of the others as E3.0 does everything I need it too, and then some.

Your camera that you buy may very well have software with it to convert the RAW files to jpegs. This may be all that you need. Buy the camera first before making the decision on wether or not to buy PhotoShop. You may not even need to spend the extra $$.
