I have been given 拢200 (around $275 I think)....? |
....for my 21st and want to start photography at an involved amateur level; question is, do I but an analogue SLR I have been offered for 拢150, or save up for another year to go digital? The photography is purely for my own enjoyment and albums but I still want it to be as good a quality as I can get? Thanks! Save up for a good digital. With analogue you have to wait for processing before you see where you went right or wrong. Digital allows you to learn quicker from experimentation. In the meantime get your basics, such as composition, up to speed. When you buy your digital, make sure you can see the screen in really bright sunshine. Peeks at People: I opened my own photography studio in my late teens. I'm retired now and 63. I can tell you this much: you are so smart you are going to know exactly what to do. You can always get more money, but that deal with the analogue SLR sounds neat. Make sure, if you can, to try it out first so you don't have to deal with disappointments later. Cover your tailfeathers, in other words. Also, if you happen to know someone who is really knowledgeable about cameras and equipment, ask his/her input/feedback to help you make a smart decision. When I realized people would give me money for my photographs, I saw that I could have the very best equipment, just like you will. Try to make a connection between making your work available to others for a fair sum and owning the best equipment for what you truly want to be doing, okay? Otherwise, your God-given good brains will guide your every step and you won't be making many mistakes. You sound pretty special, so your photography will probably be important to others in more than just a simple, local way. As they say, "think outside the box." I am looking at a book of photographs in hardcover, for example. It measures 17X24 inches and has a thunder grey canvas cover with silver inlaid lettering and the lettering is of your full name. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit that somewhere down the line here you will actually publish your photographs. Good luck to you, always, and the best of success in making the right choices and doing things right the first time! - G. South Portland, Maine. It only costs a nickel more to go first class. Your eyes will bring images to others that will have lasting importance. Pursue your dream and do not be afraid of being the absolute best at what you are creating. People praised my work. They will praise your work just as well. I look forward to your future success. I would get a digital SLR prior to a standard analogue. The money saved on Printing/Developing errors alone would justify the costs. Here's a Pentax Digital SLR at a price of 拢350 http://www.jessops.com/store/s35520/0/di... I would eventually be aiming to get an Analogue however, just a really good one. Remember to take care of the lenses as these will hold a decent resell value when you are ready to upgrade. I had a reasonable alternative in a Canon A70, a digital camera on which you can mount three different types of lense, wide angle, telephoto, macro. I believe there is similar in the Canon A520 to be had for about 拢150 (lenses extra) BEFORE YOU GO BUYING ANYTHING TOO EXPENSIVE.TRY YOUR LOCAL CASH CONVERTORS.THEY ARE FANTASTIC AND SELL MANY NEW THINGS.THEY WILL PHONE THIER OTHER STORES FOR YOU IF YOU ARE NICE TO THEM.ACTUALLY,JUST A THOUGHT,THEY MAY HAVE A WEB SITE. I BOUGHT ALL OF MY LENSES FROM THEM,SAVING MYSELF A WOPPING 拢425. THERE IS ALWAYS EBAY IF THAT DOESNT WORK. save for the digital, you can get yourself a nikon d50 on ebay for about 拢300. There is exporters who'll send them from Hong Kong. Make sure the have a high Feed back. Some over 1000. But they are to be trusted. Analouge is dead. Me. |
