Does anyone have any great tips on using a Fujifilm S3100 digital camera?

I'm always taking pictures of everything! I take pictures at work, with friends and when I go places. I've been taking a class on digital photography, but all we've really done is work in Photoshop. I would like a more updated and better camera someday, but for now, it's the s3100!

Hello there! I am hoping I can give some input to you. You should photograph the things you love, but don't stay in that area all the time. For me I realized last year that though my photography passion and muse has grown so much in the last several years, I still need to do that basic initial thing which I spent most of my time on. I love to photograph flowers, so I saw I need to fulfill that essential thing as well as continue to expand my art. So likewise for you, spend time photographing the things that bring enjoyment to YOU. If you don't have a tripod, get a decent one (if not a big name one like Bogen get a Velbon CX470 or a OSN tripod (from Walmart $30... for either the Velbon at JR.com or Walmart) and shoot a bunch of shots in vertical and horizontal. These two tripods have proper vertical pan with the flash to be on the TOP! Try shooting shots of architecture, do some macro shots while on your belly, lean upon a tall tree looking up taking a vertical shot, shot some portraits of friends/loved ones in the vertical, shoot some images of things quite mundane, try doing some set up shots inside your residence and see the things involved to make a good image. Photography is about seeing what others DO NOT see, and you've got to cultivate an eye to see. Read books on photography, look at pictures in magazines and books and think how you'd do it, and get input from those who will give postive feedback to help you along the way. Remember when using the zoom on your digicam, don't use the digital zoom as it interpolates the image thus reducing the image quality. Just get out there and do it... see what unfolds.
tips? turn camera on, aim at object, press picture button.
Don't have the 3100, but do have the 2800,3800, 5200, and 9100 Cameras from Fuji. A few tips i have learned from a pro Photographer who i do Computer consulting for:
1) always Use your Off hand to banance the Bottom of the camera(base of Lens Barrel)
2) if you don't have a glare Hood or filter use your hand to block out the sun or source of glare.
3) use cleaning cloths on the lcd and lens.
4) keep the camera from getting exposedto extreme temps!
