Whats The Similarities/Differences Between Digital Photographin and And The Darkroom Process? |
Lol what is the opposite of digital photography well.....digital photography allows for the correction of mistakes before you "get" to the darkroom/printing......the film and darkroom process allow for an immersion in your craft...the darkroom allows for more input from the artist, more control over your artwork... film forces you to slow down and think about what you are shooting because film ain't free... with an old school SLR you can finesse your settings more , exposure , depth of field ..all creative tool....I think anyone who calls themselves a photographer needs to get into the darkroom and at least experience it You have much more control over your work in a darkroom, yes I know digital is the way forward and that you can do wonderful things with Image Editing Software, but dark room work is much more of a art, Maybe that's me being a old Dinosaur. You know I wouldn't necessarily say you have more control in the darkroom than say Photoshop. Although I would concur that if you are good in the darkroom you can achieve better print results, especially in terms of black and white photography. There are a lot of variables that are hard to control in a darkroom for example temperature of your chemistry, concentrations, contamination of chemicals, paper(in terms of how it was manufactured and stored) etc... The one defining characteristic that makes traditional black and white photography different from digital photography is silver halide. A good silver gelatin print will beat any digital print, even a lightjet print which like a traditional print is also continuous tone. enormous diffs film will always give better results in the right hands |
