What is a good digital compact for serious photography? |
I have a film SLR to learn the basic with and and want to carry a camera with me all of the time to catch those fleeting moments you spot when you're out and about, but I am not yet confident enough with my SLR to set it up and take a shot quickly enough. Can you recommend a good digital compact for this purose while I get to grips with my SLR? I am a budding photojournalist so need to be able to get a shot off in the blink of an eye. I need a relaible compact with a good range of functions and I am guessing a high pixel count, but as a student the cheaper the better. Any ideas? PS I'm in the UK. Thanks! To use an analogy which I hope is appropriate for the UK, if you want to play cricket, sooner or later you'll have to get a bat. Photojournalists use DSLRs. You're going to have to figure out how to use one eventually...start now. You don't have to break the bank to get one. Go for a Nikon D40 with 18-70 lens. This rig will cover anything on Earth, including wars, tsunamis and coronations. As funds allow, get an ultrawide lens -- all the rage in PJ these days. Good luck in your quest. don't use a compact a serious photographer would use a digital SLR Sony's are international. They been a good choice for me thru the years. Happy Shooting and Good Luck! Consider a panasonic fz50,its got a 12x optical zoom,10mp,anti shake, ive just ordered one from ebay app 拢300.ive had the earlyer model fz30 for 18 months that i use for wild life photography,2 links below, a few of the photos taken with the fz30,and review of fz50. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasoni... http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/... let it be Sony A camera worth considering, is the Canon A640. It's got 10MP and full manual controls (aperture & shutter priority) which are what you need to learn how to use. Don't get a camera without this feature. Battery life is also very good, with up to 500 shots when using NiMH 2700mAh rechargeable batteries. A high speed SD card is a must (Sandisk Extreme III). check out the reviews etc... http://www.megapixel.net/reviews/canon-a... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona64... http://www.jessops.com/store/s36152/0/di... http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/pr... http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/asin... |
