New to photoshop and digital photography new help understanding?

could someone please explain to me in simple language what does the hue saturation and brightness controls mean and how they are used in photoshop

"Hue" is what color things are.
"Saturation" is how bright the colors are. Less saturation means grayer colors.
"Brightness" is how ... well, bright something is. The brighter, usually the whiter and more washed-out something looks.

To get to the menu to change the hue, saturation, and/or brightness of an image, simply push "CTRL" and "U" at the same time, or use the Image menu at the top - it's under "Adjustments."

Experiment with what you can do in that menu, and see what it does to your pictures. That's the best way to learn Photoshop. ;)
1-The Hue/Saturation command lets you adjust the hue, saturation, and lightness of the entire image or of individual color components in an image.
using:
Open the Hue/Saturation dialog box.
The two color bars in the dialog box represent the colors in their order on the color wheel. The upper color bar shows the color before the adjustment; the lower bar shows how the adjustment affects all of the hues at full saturation.

2-brightness:
The Brightness/Contrast command lets you make simple adjustments to the tonal range of an image. This command makes the same adjustment to every pixel in the image.
using:
Open the Brightness/Contrast dialog box.
Drag the sliders to adjust the brightness and contrast.
Dragging to the left decreases the level and to the right increases it. The number at the right of each slider value displays the brightness or contrast value. Values can range from -100 to +100.

good luck
I recommand you to use Google Picasa to manage and edit your pictures.

Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups.

Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organized. Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures 篓C you can email, print photos at home, make gift CDs, instantly share via Hello鈩? and even post pictures on your own blog.

free download in here, just have a try:
