What are the advantages of digital photography for society? |
What are the advantages of digital photography for society? I can think of several ways digital photography makes photography in general easier, but one importand way for society. Developing film and photographic papers uses strong chemicals that eventually need to be discarded. So digital is actually better for the environment! I see digital photography as a uniter of peoples paving the way for world peace. The ability to capture society in a more truer light - as digital photos are free people are now more relaxed to click away at anything and so photographs are now not as posed or contrived as in the pricey days of film. experience you can capture the moment and see the result as soon The ones made by previous film techniques are fading and require costly preservation. Movies on flammable stock need to be be kept in metal cases to prevent fires. Museums that have exhibits of prints need to have conservators always worrying about fading from sunlight. Families who think their wedding albums will last forever are in for rude surprises when they check them. Digital images can be reprinted when they deteriorate. The original images can be stored as backup without having to worry about their media deteriorating. New copies can be made for display that are faithful to the originals. In terms of other advantages families can take photos of family members and email them to keep in touch with friends anywhere in the world without having to have physical copies delivered. There also is a greater interest in photography among young people. Even little kids after having their photos taken want to see the image immediately on the LCD screen. That interest will result in more families having family history images to share with future generations. Digital Photography is great as it brings reality images to the masses that would normally would have been the job of journalists. But now anybody and everybody that has a mobile phone can take picture or video of that candid or real life drama that is unfolding before them. Eg, 911, the suicide scene, crime.....on top of that there are sites that allow you to sell this images. And the speed is almost instantaneous. Now you can even mobile blog straight from the phone the web.
