Photoshop or Photoshop Elements for digital photography? Want to change backgrounds....ad effects...etc.? OK this is a big one. If you can afford the Photoshop CS3, it has some excelent tools. There are supposed to be very powerful selection tools that would make changing backgrounds. I have not had need to try it out yet. Elements is also very powerful and many of the functions are simpler and more automatic. Bridge the file manager (picture organizer) that comes with CS3 is much improved, but still far from the simple easy to use interface of Elements. So it is really down to how much control you want, and how much money you want to spend. Either will work. They both use layers so you can change backgrounds if you wish. If you can afford the investment, Photoshop is as good as you will get. Elements is not as finely controlled but will do a decent job with less complications. I have and use both programs and also use Adobe Lightroom. For most of my work, I use a combination of Lightroom and Elements which works very well most of the time. All of these programs are quite memory and graphics intensive so you will need a computer with at least 3 gigs of RAM, a processor that runs at at least 2.5ghz, a high speed graphics card, and plenty of hard drive space or you will be spending a lot of time waiting for your computer to process information. In my business I have a computer that is used only for image retouching and storage. Bill Goddard Goddard Images www.goddardimages.com |
