Can anyone reccomend a good book for learning about photography. Specifically digital with an SLR type camera |
I have a Nikon D80. I want to learn how to manipulate camera settings to produce proffesional looking photographs. I am most intested in nature and lansdcape photography. My only experiance is with point an shoot digital cameras set on auto. I want to learn about shutter speed, iso, white balance, and more. Thanks Photo Idea Index by Jim Krause, How Books. It's got everything you may need to know about photography, composition, value, backdrops, transparent vs reflective objects, white balance, photographing people, backlighting etc. It's easy to udnerstand and very helpful. Here's a picture if you want to look for it: http://www.strandbookstall.com/image1/do... Get yourself a college textbook called "Photography" written by Barbara London and John Upton. It is available at Amazon.com for about $60 brand new. It is known as the bible for beginners wanting to learn more about photography. This book has been in print with more then 8 editions since the early 80's. Any book is a set of general and technical information. To improve your skills you need a tutor or readiness to experiments and observations. For knowing your camera's technical capabilities Nikon D80 user manual is perfect. Now you have to experiment and observe the effects of those experiments. In Auto mode every thing is selected and adjusted as per factory settings for best possible image. Set the mode selector dial to A for variable aperture selection, S or T for shutter speed selection, same for iso, white balance, see what are the results. I learnt photography by following the same path of experiment and observe.
