Photography for 13 yr old?

My 13 yr old son wants to get into Photography, he takes pictures with a Kodak E/S C433, but the quality isnt great, i want to get him set up with a decent camera, a tripod, and bag and other stuff he may need. The camera we have been looking at is a Kodak E/S ZD710, the tripod is a digital concepts 57" tripod, and what ever bag is available at the time. Is this alright for a beginner? All of that i can pick up for AUD$350 or less!! is this cheap, its for his birthday?

also with the camera(zd710) can you charge it through USB or do you have to buy a seperate charger?

What exactly is wrong with the quality of the images? That Kodak is a 4MP camera and should produce good quality images printed out on 5X7 paper. I still use a 5MP point and shoot and get great images printed out up to 8X10.

It may be that you don't need a new camera, but perhaps the items such as a tripod to help with the photography. It may sound silly, but make sure the camera is set to its full resolution, there have been others that accidentally set their resolution low and asked for help here on getting it back.

Rather than buying a new camera, try by getting all of the other items first and see how that works. If you are still not happy with the results, a new camera could be purchased.

You probably want to get him something special for his birthday. How about getting all of those accessories like the tripod, carry bag, some rechargeable batteries, memory cards, cleaning kit and some photography lessons? Most of the end result lies with the ability, not the camera. It could be that some lessons could do wonders and help inspire him more.

Yes and no, you can still find cheaper

thats a pretty good deal. but check costco.com first haha

If I were buying a camera for a 13 yr. old it would probably be one from the Olympus Stylus SW series. Why? Because they are shock proof to a five foot drop and water proof. Drop the Kodak or get it wet and you'll be buying a new camera.

Teach your son to always use the wrist strap or neck strap to keep his camera safe.
