Is anyone into photography?

i want to start getting into photography. i was told that i should probably major in it.
what schools are good for photography?
i just want to know like the pros and cons about photography.
is being a photographer a good career to get into, people have told me that its not cause it doesn't pay much, is that true?

Any help would be appreciate! (=

By 'start getting into photography' - what do you mean? Do you currently take a lot of pictures right now? If so, what kind of photos - you and your friends/family? School events? Pets or wild animals? Nature? If you don't enjoy the art of taking pictures - learning how to compose a good picture, learning about lighting, learning about good technique, than this might not be a good career choice for you.

If you haven't had the opportunity to explore the art/business of photography, I would recommend you check out the answers to another asker's question (see link below).

If you don't know if this isn't the right career for you even after you do research, you might want to go to a university/college with an overall strong reputation. Check out what kinds of classes would meet requirements for a BA, BS, or BBA (bachelor of arts, bachelor of sciences, bachelor of business administration); in your first few semesters, work on your general education requirements (math, english, etc) - and take a class in a major that interests you in each semester. You might find that it's the greatest thing - or you may change your mind and go with something else.

Good luck!

The pay depends on what field, whether you in business form yourself, working as a staff photographer on newspaper or magazine. What kind of photos you are taking. Weddings are hard work, seasonal, require a lot of people skills and business skills, but can be very lucrative. The portrait mills do not pay very much. Stock can be very lucrative also but is very sporadic.
Yes, it is a good career. I wish I had started when I was younger instead of a midlife!

You should look at the following schools.
Brooks Institute
RIT
Art Institute of Boston
There are many art schools that will have photo majors as well.

As far as money goes I suppose that depends on how much you would like to make. Very few pros get rich. Most will not make as much as a doctor or a ceo but once established most will make $50,000-!00,000 a year. The better you are at business the more money you will make.

Photography is a very competitive field, so you'll make more money if you work hard and put a lot into it.
