What kind of information can you guys give me about taking up photography as a career?

i think it may be a very hard field to get into.
im 16 and just waiting for some answers.
i love art to, its my favorite past time.
but is it that hard to pursue this dream?

Yes, professional photography can be a tough field to get into. Well, actually, it is easy to get started, the trick is to be successful at it. Don't fall for the idea that if you can take great photos that you will automatically be successful. That is only a tiny portion of it all. You must be a very good business person and be even better at marketing. You need to bring something unique to the table that the millions of other people with cameras cannot do.

Take business courses in school and it would also be a very good idea to begin "studying" with Mr. Charles Lewis if you want to really know the ins and outs of the photo business as it is today.

All dreams are hard to pursue, no matter what the discipline you want to pursue them in. It matters not if it is photography, architecture, or medicine. You will need these three things to succeed.

1. Perseverance: You must be willing to stay in focus an not be distracted by either disappointments or criticism.

2. Passion: There is no substitute for love or what you do. It will help keep you on task and allow you to follow your dreams.

3. Patience: You will be challenged by wanting to rush into success without taking the fundamental steps necessary to build a solid foundation for your craft. You have to resist the urge to quit when things don't move as quickly as you might want. This is especially noticeably in young people.

You have to learn photoshop, learn as much as you can about photography........digital photography is probably your best bet. But i love film still!! It's extremely competitive in the photography field or any "art" field. Give it all you got. Take as much photo classes and learn as much as you can. Good Luck! It's my passion too!

take that course in grade 10 or maybe 11. See if you lie it. Read articles and talk to people who know a lot about photography. Hope it helped.
