Anyone know of an affordable SLR digital camera for artistic photography?

I'm very much a beginner, and have been using a normal digital compact for a while, but thats more for just kind of holiday photos.
If possible i'd like it to have adjustable shutter speed, different exposure modes, adjustable focus, take good close ups and landscapes etc
is this possible for a very low price range? probably 拢200-拢250,
and it defintiely needs to be digital

thanks!

I would suggest a Nikon D40 or D60

great cameras with all of the controls you listed and many, many more

a sony alpha 100 or 200 or 300 would be good. my wife and i share one, and have done some pretty amazing things with it. the alpha 100 was the camera of the year from photography magazine in 2007 over the nikon and canon models that cost twice as much.

sony took over minolta's camera business and integrated it with their own so they have very advanced technology now. plus, the biggest advantage is that all the old and new minolta accessories are compatible with the sony bodies! i bought an f1.7 lens for my wife (fixed 50mm) in perfect condition for only $90 because it was minolta and it was a few years old. the sony version brand new is about $400. just to give you an idea of how much you can save in the long run with the sony. the nikon and canon are all about the name but that's about it.

panasonic has a new slr camera that looks like an old school slr camera, and the best part is that it has all leica electronics. leica cameras and lenses are the best in the world, and they cost a fortune unless you buy a nice higher end panasonic camera. we just bought the little point and shoot version, and it has the leica lens. if you go to leica.com you can see for yourself that all their cameras are identical to panasonics. that's because they share the same body and electronics and panasonic just markets it to compete. i have an in-depth review of panasonic cameras at epinions.com if you want more info. the model is DMC-FS3P. it will just give you an idea of how nice the panasonic cameras are. good luck!

I think your best bet is to buy a used digital SLR from ebay or an online camera store to get the most for your money. Digital technology is changing (& improving) so rapidly that digital cameras have about a 2 year life cycle. You can get an older camera for a lot less, so it might be a good way to get more bang for your buck. Looking online at used equipment is a good way to guage what a camera is worth. Check out http://www.adorama.com/ & click on their 'Buy Used Equipment' link on the left to see what they have for sale. Good luck!

I got a canon digital rebel eos 400d for 拢285

Quite cheap its worth more so,,
try ebay,,
or amazon,,
hope i helped!
Jangles!.X

Try AMAZON they sell most makes at reasonable prices, sometime a second hand SLR can be picked up cheap when people are upgrading to newer versions with more gadgets etc.

I recomment Nikon D40X which is an absolutely stunning DSLR for especially beginners and cost wise too its very low from ur budjet.

perhaps you can go with Sony Alpha 200... it has built-in image stabilizer.. fine it very useful for a beginner...
