How can I get into a good photography school?

I want to go to NYU and become a photographer.

I'm 13.

Well you are only 13 so you have plenty of time to learn and improve your photography before you go off to college. First off I would suggest you take any art classes that your school offers and if your school offers a photography class or a year book class take it!!

Read as much about photography as you can. Go to the library and check out some books about photography. I would recommend these books:
"The Digital Photography Book" by Scott Kelby
"The Digital Photography Book Volume 2" by Scott Kelby
Any of the books written by Nick Kelsh
"The Kodak Most Basic Book of Digital Nature Photography" by Russell Graves
"Understanding Digital Photography" by Bryan Peterson

You can post some of your pictures in a question on this site in the photography section people can give you criticism but be careful because sometimes people can be mean. Also just search google for photography tips and tricks and read the articles and that can be helpful too!!

To get into a photography school, you will need to start a portfolio. Put aside some of your best work, and when it is time for college, they will ask for it, look at it, and decide if they like your work enough to accept you into their school.

Well - You already have the portfolio.
And you know what school you want to attend.
Now - find out how to either enroll, get a scholarship,or just plain old attend the school. Meaning:find out what the requirements are.

Set up a portfolio and stuff...When you go to highschool talk to your guidance couselor. Also read up on some colleges and look for some that you want to go to.
